Greeley, Colorado

June 30th through July 4th 2006: Greeley, Colorado (50-miles north of Denver).

We are in Greeley RV-Park N40° 23.590' W104° 40.311' phone: 970-353-6476. They have gravel interior roads and gravel pull-thru sites with mature shaded trees; 50-amps, water and sewer, $24.00 per-night.

We have chosen Greeley as our place to "lay-low" over the 4th of July when everyone that has an RV in North America decides to use it. We have found that on national holidays if we are not safe and secure in an RV-Park we will find ourselves without a place to stay. We knew Greeley was having a Stampede and thought it would provide some entertainment over the 4th but had no idea how much entertainment.

Throughout the weekend and into the 4th of July we would head out to the Stampede grounds to get our daily fix. The Greeley Stampede is one big beehive of activity that last for two weeks. They feature a carnival, food booths, good free entertainment every day of the week Pro Rodeo or Pro bull riding or nationally known entertainment every day/night. Entertainment included Gretchen Wilson, Blake Shelton, Alan Jackson, Miranda Lambert, Trisha Yearwood, Mark Chesnutt, Sugarland, Darryl Worley, Big & Rich and Cowboy Troy. To say there was more to do than we were able to do is an understatement but we tried. Every night they featured a good area band that played from 10PM till midnight. It was that free entertainment every night from 10 to 12 that about did me in.

Every horse in eastern Colorado must have participated in the parade. Pretty girls on beautiful horses used this opportunity to present themselves center stage.

There was a large group of these Mexican horsemen with high stepping mounts. Note that the rather robust participant on the right is riding a draft horse.

For an hour and 30-minutes participants paraded by. Lead by that heard of well behaved long-horned cattle then followed by draft horses and mule teams pulling wagons of every description.

No parade in this part of Colorado would be complete without the Coors team of matched mules pulling the Coors wagon.

Wagons of every description filed past. Some pulled by beautiful draft horses.

Beautiful draft horses and just normal wagon pullers

The young lady on the right was handling that brace of horses by herself.

A huge contingent representing the Cheyenne Frontier Days Celebration in Cheyenne, Wyoming participated in the parade. Frontier Days will take place later this month and should be another happening on the order of the Greeley Stampede.
