This is Crazy Woman Square on Main Street in Buffalo, Wyoming

When I spotted the name on this building I coaxed Joyce to pose for this picture. She had no idea she was standing under that Crazy Woman Square sign. We had a good laugh as I explained things and she informed me that I really did not know what a "Crazy Woman" was like but I was about to experience one. Life is good. :-)

I guess it might be time to possibly explain why there would be a "Crazy Woman Square" in Buffalo, Wyoming.

Crazy Woman Creek - indeed all things Crazy Woman around Buffalo, Wyoming revolves around an interesting story from the 1800's. One legend involves a white family named Morgan, traveling by covered wagon, who were attacked by Sioux warriors. They tomahawked and scalped the husband and three children. Mrs. Morgan was not killed but was driven out of her mind from witnessing the terrible fate of her family. However, she had seized an ax and killed four of the attacking Indians who then left her alone. Supposedly, a mountain man named Johnson chanced upon the scene shortly thereafter, buried the dead family members, but could not persuade the woman to leave the gravesides. As a warning to the Indians not to bother her, he decapitated the warriors and placed heads upon stakes near graves. Johnson then built the woman a small cabin and stopped by occasionally to bring her supplies. Because of her presence on the stream it came to be known as Crazy Woman Creek. There is also a Crazy Woman Canyon, a Crazy Woman Road and in town this Crazy Woman Square plus Crazy Woman Liquors, Crazy Woman, Outfitters, Crazy Woman Water plus a lot more. But to get back to the story they eventually found her frozen body, apparently dead from starvation.

OK, so there you have it. It is all I could find and I do not know if it is any better than anything you might be able to make up.
