Mahogany trees have fruits not nuts. I see them high in trees but have not held one in my hand.

Google has results for both mahogany seeds and mahogany nuts but a mahogany fruit like the one you see here is a woody fruit that contains winged seeds.

This is a mahogany tree fruit or nut. They are pretty big. The ones I see are between the size of a base ball and soft ball.

We see them in south Florida in the winter (January and February). They are a very light green color in the winter.

The fruit will turn brown and dry out while still attached to the tree.

This woody fruit capsule hangs from slender, fuzzy stalks in winter. When mature it will split while still on the tree and release winged seeds.

So the fruit......which is what we see here, dries out and opens while still attached to the tree and releases winged seeds.

Mahogany fruits are what some folks refer to as "woody-fruits".

The outer covering will split and release seeds.

That is why I can never find a mahogany "seed" under the tree.

Mahogany leaves are relatively small and a yellow/green while the fruit is a very light green in this picture which was taken in the winter, it will turn brown when mature.
