Great Egrets of Loop Trail deep in the Florida Everglades

This travellog covers the day we toured Loop Trail in Everglades National Park while camping in Monument Lake National Park Campground.

We were camping in Monument Lake National Park Campground $8 with my NP "geezer-pass". The campground features a gravel road and grass sites with NO utilities, not even water or a central dump. It is nothing more than a camping spot in paradise.

A great egret, cypress trees, bromeliads and water. That is what the everglades is all about.

Great egrets are great fishermen and this one has the proof. On Loop Trail in the Florida everglades you can see all kinds of things.

This great egret quickly brought his catch onto the bank before trying to get it into position to swallow.

After a few minutes the fish is ready to make its last journey. You can not tell it but this great egret has moved away from the water. There was a good reason for moving away from the water as his lunch was being eyed by another critter.
