BamaJam and Joanna Smith Enterprise - Ozark, Alabama

June 4 through 6, 2009

This travellog covers the three days of BamaJam 2009 outside Enterprise, Alabama.

We stayed in Mr. D's RV Park in Ozark, AL. $20 for FHU paved sites & interior roads including cable. While Mr. D's is not a destination park with all kinds of amenities it was perfect for our needs and we will stay there again.

We are in a large pasture north of Enterprise, Alabama for a 3-day County Music extravaganza something like a country music Woodstock. It is all outdoors with over 100,000 music fans in attendance. Talk about a hoot. There were 4-music stages with good music on all stages. This is the main stage early Thursday afternoon as the event started. Jamie Johnson started the show with Luke Bryan following him. That looks like Luke Bryan on the screen.

This is George Jones who made several appearances during the event. I can't remember whether he appeared this time with John Anderson or Blake Shelton. Whatever, he came out and sang a song then walked off.

Blake Shelton put on a good show.

Taylor Swift closed out the Thursday night show. The young folks loved her. She was cute but her music did nothing for me.

Aaron Tippin always puts on a good show and this was no exception.

Charlie Daniels getting down on his guitar during his hit song Devil Came Down to Georgia.

The Possum showed up yet another time for one song.

You might remember Randy Owen from the group Alabama where he was the lead singer. He is now performing on his own. As you can see he has been eating good. VBG

His voice has not changed and he put on a great performance of old Alabama songs.

Bama Jam Campground

Saturday, we parked in a lot about a mile from the event. I was able to get these pictures of the tent camping area. It looked to me that there was about 300 acres of tent camping. RV's (motorhomes, 5th wheels and travel trailers) were in different area that covered what appeared to me to be possibly 300 acres. It is hard to estimate since I could not see the entire area.

This is another view of the tent camping area.

While there is a lot of tents this is nothing compared to the number of RV's in the RV-camping area. Now that was something to see.

Bama Jam main stage

The crowd continued to grow all day. As you can see this is early-afternoon in front of the main stage. That is most likely Heidi Newfield performing. She was the opening act that kicked off Saturday performances on the main stage.

The crowd grows hour by hour until the really BIG performers scheduled for the last shows (Brooks & Dunn and Kid Rock). This looks like if might have been mid-afternoon while Pat Green was performing. It is a good crowd but nothing like what gets crammed in here by 10 PM when Brooks & Dunn perform.

Bama Jam audience mid-afternoon

It is still daylight so this has to be during Jason Aldean or Gary Allan. This picture is only able to capture around 1/2 the crowd in the immediate area of the main stage. Remember there are 3-other stages plus a mid-way full of food merchandise plus the "Budweiser" area which was popular beyond belief. Like I said this picture might possibly show 1/2 the crowd but probably not.

I think this is Pat Green.

It is getting later in the afternoon so this is some of the audience during Gary Allen.

Joanna Smith at Bama Jam

This is three of our friends performing on one of the alternate stages. Joanna Smith is the lead singer. Marc Robichaud is her base guitar player and Shawn Apple is the drummer.

Mark spotted me in the audience and gave me a grin.

Joanna Smith at Bama Jam 2009

Joanna was having the performance of her life. She should have been on the main stage. Her performance was better than any of the female artist on the big stage.

Wow, it is hard to believe but this has been a wonderful experience. I do not know how we could have packed anything else into these three days.
