Spanish influence in Weston, Colorado

Adobe construction in building and fence showcases Spanish/Mexican influence in Weston, Colorado

Adobe construction is still in evidence along the Highway of Legends. This picture shows a home in Weston with an adobe wall. We were not able to tell if the adobe construction behind this home was of an old adobe building or if it is new construction. The wood liners around the window openings looks new while the adobe looks old. Then you look further back and it looks like wooden forms for windows are in place and adobe will be added. It may be that an older adobe building is being remodeled. In any event we included the picture to emphasize the Spanish/Mexican heritage in this area.

The entire length of the Highway of Legends from Trinidad, through Weston, Stonewall, Cuchara, La Veta and ending in Walsenburg was settled by the Spanish & Mexicans long before United States citizen thought about settling here and it is evident.
