Teton Range

Willow Flats Overlook located less than a mile south of Jackson Lake Lodge on US-89 the highway that runs through Grand Teton National Park and into the south entrance to Yellowstone National Park. Most visitors to Grand Teton National Park will make a habit of stopping frequently as Willow Flats Overlook where they try to spot elk, moose and grizzly bear. Sometimes wolves can be spotted but they are much harder to see.

When we stay in Colter Bay Campground at Colter Bay Village located about 6-miles north of Willow Flats we make the trip by Willow Flats overlook several times a day in search of animals. When the animals are "hiding" we generally stop by Jackson Lake Lodge to watch people. Well, we like to soak in some of the ambiance and Joyce likes to wander through the gift shops.

Willow Flats Overlook in Grand Teton National Park offers visitors a good spot to experience visual overload. As you can see in this picture you have Willow Flats, Jackson Lake and the Teton Range arranged in a panoramic view.

This wide angle view of the Teton Mountain Range features Mt Moran as the centerpiece. As you can see there is still plenty of snow in the higher elevations and it is mid-July. Jackson Lake is full and the Snake River is still flowing at or near flood stage. Willow Flats is the seen in the foreground.

Joyce took this picture from a pullout north of Colter Bay Village along Jackson Lake. We were heading north from our campsite in Colter Bay Campground to explore Flag Ranch, Grassy Lake Road and Yellowstone National Park. Note that the Teton Range is beginning to flatten out a bit from the dramatic peaks south of this location in Grand Teton National Park.

Joyce took this picture one evening from Jackson Lake Dam in Grand Teton National Park. We had been watching a mother grizzly with two cubs not far away in Willow Flats. The bear and her cubs disappeared into the willows so we moved on to Jackson Lake Dam to take pictures of the Teton Mountain Range across Jackson Lake.

We were dining with friends Buddy & Suzie Kinsner at the Pizzeria at Leeks Marina located about one mile north of Colter Bay Village and Colter Bay Campground where we are staying when Joyce took this picture.

Leeks Marina is one of several marinas located along the shore of Jackson Lake. Each of the marinas offer a magnificent view of the Teton Mountain Range across Jackson Lake.

Mt Moran is the large mountain just to the right of center in this picture of the Teton Range. Grand Teton is the tall pointed peak on the left side. The chain of mountains are the Teton Range, and all of this is located in Grand Teton National Park. Willow Flats is the dark area along the bottom of this picture and Jackson Lake is the water you see at the base of the Teton Range. Jackson Lake Lodge is located just out of sight to the right side of this picture and Colter Bay Village is located about 6-miles north (to the right) of this picture.
