I see it costs $80 a month for a space at the dinghy dock.

It costs a LOT more than that to park your car in Key West so the dinghy dock is a bargain. VBG

This small dinghy, with the owner's black and white cat, are heading to the dinghy dock along Harbor Walk in Key West Bight Marina.

When strolling along Harbor Walk around the Historic Seaport Harbor in Key West you never know what you are going to see.

This is the dinghy dock along Harbor Walk in Key West Bight Marina. There are dinghies of every size and description.

The dinghy in the foreground looks like it has a large water container. That is probably how the owner gets water to his liveaboard boat moored somewhere nearby.

Anytime you are walking along Harbor Walk in Key West Bight Marina you want to keep your eyes peeled for the large tarpon that cruise Key West Bight.

We seem to always see a few of these large tarpon in the vicinity of the dinghy dock.

These two young ladies are heading to the dinghy dock in Key West Bight Marina. They are probably coming to Key West where they work. Later, when they get off work they will head back to their liveaboard boat in this same dinghy.

There is a colorful bunch of dinghies at the dinghy dock today. Those two on the far left probably belong to folks in nice yachts anchored off Key West while the others look like they are owned by individuals on "liveaboard" boats moored around Wisteria Island not far from here.

These are some of the liveaboard boats that use dinghies for transportation to and from their "liveaboards". And some, but not all, will utilize a spot at the dinghy dock along Harbor Walk in Key West Bight Marina.

Some may work at waterfront resorts in the area and be able to use a spot at the wharf around the waterfront resort as their "parking-space". If they drove an automobile to work the employer would most likely provide a parking space so why not allow an employee to utilize an out of the way spot to "park" their dinghy?

Housing in Key West if frightfully expensive so many people resort to "liveaboard" boats and use dinghies for transportation to and from Key West.

Wisteria Island or Christmas Tree Island & "liveaboard boats" near Key West

Wisteria Island or Christmas Tree Island near Key West

This is Wisteria Island, locally known as Christmas Tree Island that lies about 1/2 mile north of Old Town Key West.

The moniker "Christmas Tree Island" comes from the Australian pines that grow there.

As you can see a good number of liveaboard boats are moored near the island and use dinghies to get into Key West. As you might suspect, these folks dock their dinghies at the dinghy dock along Harbor Walk in Key West Bight Marina when visiting Key West.

Do not be fooled by this picture there are hundreds of these liveaboard boats moored around this this island and hundreds more moored in any sheltered cove in the vicinity of Key West, and many of them use the dinghy dock along Harbor Walk in Key West Bight Marina.

Some of the individuals on these liveaboard boats are vagabonds for sure. Others are normal people who are using these liveaboard boats as affordable housing while working normal jobs in Key West.

This is a nice dinghy with a new motor so I suspect the passengers on this dinghy are on a Yacht anchored nearby and just came in to pick up a part or supplies.
