The Famous old ranch house was torn down in 1960.

The Goose Egg Ranch is located at Bessemer Bend on the North Platte River in Wyoming a few miles upstream from Casper.

The Goose Egg Ranch was featured in Owen Wister's "The Virginian", if you are old enough to remember that old TV series.

In 1877, Gilbert A. Searight established the Goose Egg ranch on the north bank of the North Platte River near Bessemer Bend.

Bessemer Bend was the famous spot on the Oregon Trail where travelers forded the river with their wagons.

Searight stocked the ranch by trailing 14,000 head of cattle from Texas in 1877.

Legend has it that The Goose Egg Ranch received its name when several cowboys found a goose nest with eggs and took the eggs to the cook, who bore the name "Old Over Slope".

Supposedly the eggs gave Gilbert Searight inspiration for the brand which would be easy to make and apply.
