In 1913 Lincoln had a vision for a cross country highway. Completed in 1927 the Lincoln Highway was the first transcontinental highway crossing thirteen states from New York to San Francisco. It later became federally marked US Highway 30. Today, Interstate 80, being the cross-country highway most closely aligned, is considered the grandson of the Lincoln Highway.

This picture was taken on a beautiful day in July. However, in the icy winter months this stretch of Interstate 80( The Lincoln Highway) can be very treacherous and the summit is often covered in snow.

The only Lincoln monument along his namesake highway. It is located at the Summit Rest Area on Interstate 80 about 17 miles from Laramie Wyoming.

This monument commemorates the Lincoln Highway, America's first transcontinental automobile road and Henry Bourne Joy, the first president of the Lincoln Highway Association (1913.) Joy is also known as father of the nations modern highway system.

The monument and the base was located on the original Lincoln highway. In 1969 when Interstate 80 was completed it was relocated.
