Places Visited: Wyoming: Float trip down the Snake River from Moose
Junction in Teton National Park to the Wilson Bridge (southwest of Jackson) with
our Son Jeff and Grandson Stephen.
Aug 21, 2007.
While in the Tetons
we stayed at two of the National Park Campgrounds: Colter Bay and Gros Ventre.
Both are dry camping sites and are rarely full. Both are $17 per-night to "dry
camp" with central water and dump site of course if you have the "geezer-pass"
the rate will be half that. There are several hundred sites in each of the campgrounds.
We spent most of our time in Gros Ventre because it is located only 10-miles north
of Jackson and we love Jackson and all it has to offer.
We left West
Yellowstone, Montana this morning to return to Gros Ventre Campground in Teton
National Park. Jeff and Stephen fly out of Jackson tomorrow returning to Pensacola
after visiting with us this week. We got an early start on our way back to Teton
National Park because we had a scenic raft trip scheduled for 4 PM.

We
got back to the Tetons and set up our motorhome in plenty of time. Our scenic
raft trip this afternoon is with Dornans. Will Dornan has an agreement with the
National Park Service to operate 3-scenic float trips per-day on a section of
the river not open to other rafting companies.
This scenic trip floats
the section of Snake River between Moose Junction in Teton National Park and the
Wilson Bridge on the southwest side of Jackson (a 14-mile float).
We
had only been floating for a minute or so when our guide spotted this large bull
moose. For those of you familiar with the Tetons this moose was on the Snake River
within yards of the new Teton Information Center that was just dedicated.

Now
this is a fine bull moose.

We
watched these white pelicans as we floated past.

Grandson
Stephen.

Joyce
snapped this action shot of a bald eagle that was swooping down to take a fish
away from a common merganser.

This
is one of the common mergansers that the eagle was trying to steal a fish from.

This
is another shot of that eagle as he tried to steal a fish.

I
do not know which one of these mergansers had the fish that the eagle wanted.

Stephen
finally gave in. We have been going hard for almost a week and this quiet time
got the best of him.

Joyce
snapped this picture of the Tetons from the Snake River 5-miles south of Moose
Junction.

Our
guide took this picture of the floaters. That is Joyce and I with our son Jeff
and grandson Stephen.
Until
next time remember how good life is.
