Texas Gates & Fences

We were in two RV-Parks during this time Lady Bird Johnson City Park in Fredericksburg and Kerrville Schreiner City Park in Kerrville. If you want detailed information on either of these parks check travelogues -----in our 2007 Travels folder that are on either side of this one.

April 15 through 22, 2007.

This collection of fences and gates is the result of two-weeks of activity in the Hill Country around Fredericksburg and Kerrville.

Gates are like boats and beach cottages along the Florida coast they all have catchy names. Entrance gates in Texas are all distinctly different, I think they try to showcase the owner's personality.

I think this owner is laid back. What do you think?

This owner has MONEY and wants everyone to know it. This is an impressive entrance gate in anyone's book.

San Carlos Ranch in Texas Hill Country

San Carlos Ranch in Texas Hill Country

This is the San Carlos entrance gate. It is massive and impressive. This gate costs more than most American's homes. I am impressed.

Nice but not up to running with the big dogs.

Faulkner Ranch in Texas Hill Country

Faulkner Ranch in Texas Hill Country

Nice but not ostentatious. This is one of many entrance gates to the Faulkner spread. This is a working ranch specializing in big game hunting. Just guessing from the length of the fence we saw bordering the highway this place may be in excess of 100,000 acres. Whatever, it is BIG. You can see more pictures of this fence and another gate later.

Eldorado Ranch in Texas Hill Country

Eldorado Ranch in Texas Hill Country

Fancy and elaborate. Eldorado!

Nothing fancy. This rancher might have run on hard times.

Faulkner Ranch in Texas Hill Country

I think this is another gate to the Faulkner Ranch 5 or so miles down the road from the one above.

Bar O Nothin Ranch in Texas Hill Country

Bar O Nothin Ranch in Texas Hill Country

Ahh! I like the message. A plain spoken chap wouldn't you say?

Dos Arroyos Ranch in Texas Hill Country

Dos Arroyos Ranch in Texas Hill Country

I like this entrance gate with a circular drive leading to the gate of all things. This owner had a touch pad that operated the gate, plus a roof over the gate station.

Definitely top notch.

Lazy Hills Guest Ranch west of Ingram Texas

Lazy Hills Guest Ranch west of Ingram Texas

Nice gate to a guest ranch west of Ingram.

This gate sports some nice iron work.

Big and simple. It looks like this fellow fashioned his entrance gate out of used pipe from the natural gas fields in the area. Many ranchers use this pipe for fence post.

Simple but elegant. The matching yucca on each side of the gate give it a special touch ---- as in ouch! Think about that if you did not catch it the first time-----yucca-needle sharp sticker things.

This gate sports a combination of masonry and iron work. This owner also shows patriotism with the flags plus the Texas star in the gate. Can we call this a menagerie gate?

Love Creek in the Texas Hill Country

Love Creek in the Texas Hill Country

Nice entrance showcasing limestone rock native to the area. I like it.

Over the Rainbow Ranch in the Texas Hill Country

Over the Rainbow Ranch in the Texas Hill Country

Over the Rainbow. I like it. What a nice name.

And this one sports a rustic look, with columns of native limestone.

Here is that Texas Star again. Nice but certainly not original.

Now this gate has a utilitarian flair. Something tells me this gate is used by working folks.

This was taken on the road outside the Full Moon Inn less than a mile from Luckenbach.

This wood fence ads a rustic flair.

Texas patriotism

Texas patriotism

Many ranchers show their patriotism with the flying of both the American and Texas flags.

This fence has a nice rustic flair to it.

Typical fence containing expensive exotic game animals.

More of that TALL game fencing seen throughout the Hill Country where exotic game animal are being contained.

Faulkner Ranch in Texas Hill Country

Faulkner Ranch in Texas Hill Country

This is a section of the Faulkner fence that borders an intersection of two highways. It is located miles from the impressive gate shown earlier. This ranch is probably larger than the state of Rhode Island, and probably worth about the same. VBG

Notice how tall this fence is and how stout it is. It is designed to keep an impressive array of exotic game animals inside.

This was a unique way of doing something with straight pieces of cedar.

This is a change. I think I like it. It is certainly different.

This unique fence was using what looked to be 1/2" or larger steel cable between fence posts. The fence post appeared to be constructed out of the natural gas piping common in this area. This is heavy duty fencing for sure.

This fence is on Willow Loop a wildflower scenic drive north of Fredericksburg.
