Columbia Lake
July 6, 2007.
We are staying in Radium Valley Vacation Resort-Resort, in Radium
Hot Springs. $51.00 FHU including cable but NO wifi, paved
interior roads, large sites with covered picnic tables. The negative
with this park is the price and NO wifi. We would much rather stay
in the Canyon RV-Park
but they were full. We will stay in another park when we return to
Radium
Hot Springs just because of the price and no wifi. However,
if you like resorts with pools and such this would be the place for
you.
Headwaters of the mighty Columbia River

We have moved north of the Kootenay
River and are entering the Columbia River drainage. We are
near the headwaters of the Columbia River. Shortly this marsh area
will become a beautiful lake.
Columbia Lake headwaters of the Columbia River

That is Columbia Lake in the center of the picture with a dark green
grain field in the center and a mowed hay field on the right side.
While I included this picture grain and hay operations are few and
far between around here.

Columbia
Lake is the headwaters of the mighty Columbia River.

Columbia Lake

The array of colors seen in Columbia Lake are the result of glacial
silt in the water.
However, according to a kiosk at the overlook, Columbia Lake is spring
fed yet the same kiosk says the milky colors in the lake are the result
of glacial silt in the water. Well, is it spring fed or glacial melt?
In any event this lake is where the 4th largest, by volume, river
system on the continent begins its journey to the sea.
