Places Visited:

South Carolina: Clemson & Fair Play

We just got back from an 11 day trip to South Carolina. We were
not in our motorhome this time but still enjoyed some of the same
things we enjoy when we are in our motorhome. My son & his wife
graduated from Clemson, University in South Carolina and they had
Home coming one weekend then the next weekend they were
hosting FSU (Florida State) in the annual Bowden Bowl (Bobby
Bowden's son Terry coaches Clemson & of course Bobby coaches
FSU). I am an FSU fan while my son & DIL are Clemson graduates. That
is why we were in that area.

We have friends that have a lake house on Lake Hartwell in Fair
Play, South Carolina about 20-miles south of Clemson. Joyce and I
plus my son & DIL & their two children stayed with them instead of
us taking our motorhome. Can you say-------they are good friends!!
Amen! When you stay with anyone for 11-days they have to be
good friends.

While there we drove up to Highlands, NC one day to enjoy the
leaves turning while the women enjoyed shopping in Highlands.
Another day we drove up to Devils Fork State Park on Lake
Jocassee near Salem, South Carolina. This was another leaf
peeping day plus our son was showing us where they used to go
camping when they were in college.

Of course there were two football games ------ Clemson & Duke one
Saturday where Clemson won then Clemson & FSU where Clemson
spanked FSU---- it was brutal. Probably the worse loss for Bobby in over
15-years. It was a BAD day for FSU fans.

The lake house we were staying at was near exit 2 of I-85. To get to the
lake house we had to pass a Thousand Trails Campground that also has
property on Lake Hartwell. I suspect some RV'ers have visited that
campground.

One day we drove up to Ashville, NC and visited the Biltmore house. The
Biltmore house is still owned by the Vanderbilt family and is the largest
residence in the U.S.---------at least that is what I think they said. It
was built from 1889 to 1895 of steel & limestone. The house still has
furniture from the 1800's plus it was decorated for Christmas.

The leaves usually turn in late October but for some reason last
week was the peak in the area south of Highlands, NC.

Well, that is it. If you are ever in the area there is plenty of things
to see and do and campgrounds to stay in.
